Creating Safe and Happy Schools
Kiran School System (KSS) is an expansion of the mother-child trauma informed preschool system which we had practiced almost a decade at our flagship Ibtedai program. Here we aim to create a safe and happy, child-centric learning environment on a whole school level. This model goes beyond the idea of conventional education from Foundation to Grade 10, where children learn through a multi-disciplinary, experiential learning approach. Children are given the support they need to thrive and reach their full potential, recognizing their individual strengths. We nurture future ambassadors of change who believe in love and compassion, and who lead their community towards a brighter, more peaceful future. Mother’s education program is compulsory and runs parallel.
Mother-Child
Education
We believe in the central role a mother plays in the life of a child. At Kiran School System, we educate, empower, and support mothers in a way that they become the biggest role model in their child’s life. Mothers and primary caregivers are considered equal partners in the learning and teaching process for children all the way to Matric.
During the KSS foundation years, we encourage mothers to come thrice a week for continuing their own learning process along with their child. Our training ranges from basic literacy, ESL, self-grooming, positive parenting, awareness on mental health and self-care.
Happiness-Focused
Approach
Trauma can impact learning, behavior, and relationships. At the Kiran School System, our policies ensure that every child feels unconditionally loved, understood and acknowledged. The school supports all children to feel safe physically, socially, emotionally, and academically. The school addresses student needs in holistic ways, taking into account their relationships, self-regulation, academic competence, and physical and emotional wellbeing.
KSS adopts a non-punitive approach and provides opportunities for building positive connections with adults and peers that they may otherwise lack in their lives. Children regularly engage in activities like prayer, meditation, art, rhythm, mindfulness, free-play and sports, etc. that boost their sense of wellbeing. We focus on creating a culture that ignites joy by celebrating the simple things life has to offer.
Holistic & Child-Centric
Approach
Kiran School System goes beyond the idea of conventional education, where children learn through a multi-disciplinary, experiential learning approach. Lessons are rich in hands-on
Activities and themes that spark the natural curiosity in children, making them avid learners.
Learning does not stop when regular school hours end. Kiran School System’s HADIA BTS Clubs take learning Beyond the School. In the evenings, children come back to school to be a part of any club of their choice ranging from football, gymnastics, martial arts, to art, debates, chess and theatre and many more.
WOW sessions are a constant feature of inspiration for the students. Students feel motivated and guided by meeting people from all walks of life, sharing their journeys and struggles with the students. Their Words of Wisdom give hope and instill dreams for their future.
Positive Behaviour
Support System (PBSS)
This is a compassionate approach to discipline. It is Non-punitive & anti-shaming with positive reinforcement of healthy behaviors. It Inculcates self-discipline & accountability through a unique and interesting reward and consequence system which motivates the students to enjoy being mindful, respectful and responsible.
SCHOOL POLICIES
The Kiran School policies have been devised by our Psychology professional lead Sara khatri with careful understanding of mental and emotional health.
The objective of these policies are:
- Creating a safe and supportive environment
- Building nurturing relationships with students
- Fostering connection and healing
- Warmth and unconditional positive regard
- Shared understanding of trauma and its effects with the lead personas at school.
When I am working with the students of the kiran school system I feel very privileged. Often I remind myself that I am in lyari, and not a school for gifted education. The student are a bright, enthusiastic and emotionally intelligent bunch. They have taught me more than I was able to teach them. Then immense and diverse exposure they have received thanks to the kiran school system has groomed them into very special and talented individuals, whose future I am eager to watch unfold. Our work together tells me they will grow to be dynamic change makers..
